James R. Furry, Licensed Minister

James R. Furry is our licensed minister at West Park United Church of Christ.

Jim and his parents, Bob and Mary Furry, started attending West Park about 1943. Jim was baptized and confirmed April 2, 1953. He began singing in the Chancel Choir in 1954. Jim graduated from John Marshall in 1956 and graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1960 with a BS in Business Administration.

Jim preached his first sermon on Laity Sunday, October 10, 1971. Realizing he had a call to ministry he entered the Licensed Ministry Program of the Western Reserve Association. He was first licensed July 16, 1976. A service of recognition was held at West Park in September, 1976 where Jim was presented with a robe and stoles. During his early years of Ministry he lead worship services at several churches in the Western Reserve Association.

Jim has served on most of the Boards and Committees of the Church and was Moderator for four years. Jim served the Western Reserve Association as a member of the Department of Church and Ministry for five years overseeing the programs for Licensed and Commissioned Ministry. He has been a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of the Western Reserve Association for 23 years and its chairperson for the past 25 years.
